The annual SIMA AWARDS are the official global media competition of SIMA STUDIOS, a 501(c)3 non-profit impact media agency.
We exist to advance global awareness, social justice, human rights and education by supporting independent content creators and media artists on the front-lines of social change and bringing their work into communities and classrooms around the globe.

Since 2012, the annual SOCIAL IMPACT MEDIA AWARDS have set new standards of creativity and integrity in social impact storytelling, honoring eye-opening documentary filmmaking and VR experiences that exemplify excellence in their potential to inspire social change. Each year, projects are selected from over 140 countries around the world, competing for awards, cash prizes, media features, and entry into SIMA’s impact distribution channels. Since 2019 SIMA Award honorees also include Production Companies and Funders for their unique commitments to advancing social impact storytelling.
Our international distribution channels: SIMAx and SIMA Classroom maximize the impact and exposure of the best films from our annual awards. Through unique partnerships and collaborations with changemakers, organizations and educational institutions, we bring social impact storytelling into classrooms and communities worldwide, cultivating awareness, education and engagement from the grassroots level and up.
Our Fiscal Sponsorship program allows us to enable film and creative impact projects to raise tax-deductible funds in the US, in all stages of development, production, post-production, distribution, outreach and impact campaigns. Find out more here.
The Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA) started as the first documentary and educational media competition honoring members of both the independent film and global humanitarian industries. We set out to propel and elevate social-impact filmmaking that inspires crucial perspectives and demonstrates unique potential to enlighten, transform, and positively impact our contemporary world. Over the years, we developed a global grassroots community engagement program: SIMAx, a ground-breaking education program, SIMA Classroom, and an ever expanding film catalogue, The SIMA x Collection. Through the annual SIMA AWARDS and year-round DISTRIBUTION PROGRAMS, we provide a catalyst for these important works, and serve as a cutting edge media reserve for educators, activists, journalists and screening partners around the globe.
