We celebrate social-documentary storytelling of excellence and connect international audiences and organizations with the best global impact cinema.
To advance global awareness, social justice, human rights, and humanitarian development by catalyzing creative works of visual storytelling that inspire activism, compassion and social transformation.
The Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA) started as the first documentary and educational media competition honoring members of both the independent film and global humanitarian industries. We set out to propel and elevate social-impact filmmaking that inspires crucial perspectives and demonstrates unique potential to enlighten, transform, and positively impact our contemporary world. Over the years, we developed a global traveling series and community engagement program, SIMAx, a ground-breaking education program, SIMA Classroom, and an ever expanding film catalogue, The SIMA Collection, curating and distributing the best contemporary impact cinema. Through the annual SIMA AWARDS and year-round FILM PROGRAMS, we provide a catalyst for these important works, and serve as a film reserve for educators, journalists and screening partners around the globe.
The annual SIMA AWARDS champion eye-opening impact cinema that exemplifies excellence in its potential to inspire social change. Each year, films are selected from over 140 countries around the world that stand out in their creativity, integrity, and educational merit, competing for honors, cash prizes and industry accolades.
Our international Film Programs are designed to maximize impact and exposure of the best films from our annual awards. Through unique partnerships and collaborations with SIMA Ambassadors, human rights, film, educational and cultural forums, we host year-round screening events that cultivate awareness and engagement from the grassroots to the governmental level, and distribute films to groups and organizations seeking to educate, activate and inspire.
